Vig Calculator

Enter the American odds for each outcome to see the implied probabilities, the bookmaker's overround (vig), and the true fair odds with the margin removed.

What is Vig?

The vig (short for vigorish, also called "juice" or "margin") is the bookmaker's built-in profit margin. When you convert both sides of a two-way market to implied probabilities, they'll sum to more than 100%. The excess is the vig — it's what the bookmaker charges you for the privilege of betting.

How De-Vigging Works

De-vigging removes the bookmaker's margin to reveal the "true" probabilities of each outcome. The simplest method (used here) divides each implied probability by the total overround. Sharp books like Pinnacle have very low vig (1–3%), while recreational books can be 5–10% or more.

Why It Matters

If you're looking for +EV bets, you need to know what the true probability of an outcome is. By de-vigging a sharp bookmaker's line, you get a close estimate of the true probability. You can then compare that to the odds offered by other books — if their odds imply a lower probability than the true probability, you have a positive expected value bet.
